A Certified Nursing Assistant performs many basic care tasks for patients, like grooming, dressing, bathing, eating and exercising. They also assist the nursing staff with medical tasks like taking blood, monitoring vitals with medical equipment and reporting patient behavior and wellbeing. Their role is to ensure patients are comfortable and well cared for while under the care of Doctors and Nurses. GNA's are very similar, actually they are CNA's too, but more highly trained in geriatric care, and receive an additional certification - the GNA - that is required in Maryland to work in a LTC facility.

You will make $17 to $18 per hour while obtaining your GNA and then will receive an increase to $19.30 per hour as a GNA.

Essential Job Functions

  • Administer questionnaires to patients
  • Measure and record vital signs
  • Clean and dress wounds
  • Maintain patient hygiene including proper care of a bedpan
  • Specific medical care such as catheter, dental care, perineal care
  • Repositioning patients
  • Feeding patients
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Must have active CNA License
  • Must have and maintain a current CPR certification
  • Must be immunized for defined illnesses and diseases
